Many people ask us how we became innkeepers and what we did before we owned the Inn At Lewis Bay. When we were first married we lived on Arlington Pond in Salem, New Hampshire. We were in the process of completely remodeling our lake front cottage when, as so often happens these days, the company Dave worked for was sold. We hated to leave the lake but it was either move to Virginia or look for new work here. I guess we're New Englanders at heart because we decided to stay up here in the cold and Dave found new employment at Ocean Spray Cranberries. That was in 1986 when we packed up and moved to the cape, Sandwich to be precise. After that experience we became a little leery of the 'corporate life' so we have always had the idea of working for ourselves in the back of our minds. Dave is a Project Manager in the Information Technology Department and a member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard. Janet has always worked in a fabric store or cleaning houses, or both. As you can probably tell she has become an avid, some might say fanatical, quilter. I'm sure she has enough fabric to last the rest of her life but it seems she always has a reason to get more.

So why an inn? Well, it just so happens that the Inn At Lewis Bay is just a few houses away from Janet's parents house over on Hedge Row. Actually, Janet spent her childhood summering in the neighborhood. Janet's sister, Gail, started working at the Inn and eventually our daughter, Jessie and Janet worked there as well. We became friends with the previous owners, Rick and Liz, and when they decided to sell, they offered it to us. We just couldn't refuse. The chance to mingle with 'bed and breakfast people' , they are the nicest people, coupled with our love to work on old houses and Janet's passion for cooking, housekeeping and quilting made the decision easy.

Our daughter, Jessie has graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a degree in Hospitality Tourism Management. She now lives on the North Shore in Salem, Ma. By coincidence her apartment is right next door to our first apartment. She works in the Sales & Events department of the Boston Marriott Long Wharf.

We look forward to many years of creating a special atmosphere for our guests and to help them create warm memories of Cape Cod.
